Roseto degli Abruzzi
4-star seafront hotel on the Adriatic in Roseto degli Abruzzi. Private beach, outdoor pool, panoramic restaurant…
Montepagano is the small hilltop hamlet that represents the original historic core of Roseto degli Abruzzi. Perched on a promontory at around 150 metres above sea level, the village commands one of the most evocative views of the entire Teramo coast: on a clear day the panorama stretches from the Apennines to the Tremiti Islands — and on exceptional days as far as the Croatian coast.
Montepagano’s origins date to the early Middle Ages. The village grew around a fortified stronghold and church as a typical defensive hilltop settlement — strategically placed to monitor both the sea and inland routes. The historic centre has remained largely intact, with local limestone houses, narrow alleys and stairways descending toward the coast. The Church of San Nicola di Bari, dating to the 12th century, is the village’s most important monument and preserves medieval frescoes of significant artistic value.
A walk through the village takes about an hour but can easily extend to a half-day for those who want to savour the authentic atmosphere. Not to miss: the main belvedere with its 180° sea view, the partially preserved medieval tower, craft workshops producing ceramics and local Abruzzo products, and the village restaurants serving traditional Teramo cuisine.
Yes. In summer (June–September) restaurants, craft shops and the shuttle from the beach are all operating. In low season the village is quieter but retains all its authentic charm.
